wcupsa mission statement and our philosophy for youth soccer education!
History
Today, the World Cup Soccer Academy is a large and well-recognized sports education company that services over 2500 youth athletes year-round. But it wasn't always like this! In 1993, the Academy held its first 85 person summer camp... here is an overview of WCUPSA's growth.
The First Camp
That first summer, 85 campers laughed and learned under a veteran five-man staff aided by an eager group of high-school counselors. The camp was a great success! By 1996, WCUPSA had expanded to Tredyffrin / Easttown (T/E), where Jeff was joined by soccer bigwig Julian Sur in an effort to meet T/E’s similar soccer needs.
The Academy Today
Now more than ten years down the road, WCUPSA has become the Main Line’s premier youth coaching organization. Driven by the Academy’s motto, Building Character Through Athletics, WCUPSA now provides fun, educational learning experiences not only for RSC and TEYSA, but also for clubs in Plymouth, King of Prussia, and Chester.
The Academy was integral in the Planning Committee for EPYSA’s small sided soccer system, encouraging small-sided games as an essential developmental tool for young players, and now provides training for several of EPYSA’s Olympic Development Programs. WCUPSA staff and players have worked with Champions World, the group which recently brought high level European professional teams such as AC Milan, Chelsea, and Celtic to America. WCUPSA also provided training support for both Manchester United and FC Barcelona when they were on their US tours.
It is a testament to WCUPSA's work that the 2004 RSC summer camp alone attracted 250 youth players, while throughout the year the Academy served over 2400 members of the youth community, ages 5 to 18. As the Academy believes strongly in quality programming and excitement for those of all ability levels, WCUPSA provides teaching for beginners through the elite.
Recent Progress
Most recently, WCUPSA has begun a new partnership with Radnor Township’s Parks and Recreation department, and has expanded its offerings outside of soccer. WCUPSA now leads basketball, Olympic sports, multi-sport, and nature camps in addition to a variety of opportunities throughout the year.
